The vibrant colours of the sunflowers felt unreal in the dingy hospital room. Clara stared at them, her mouth agape. A card was missing. Her eyes darted around the room, as if the sender might be hiding. She turned the vase over, trying to find anything, any indication. Her fingers brushed against a sticky label, but it told her nothing. She felt a knot tighten in her stomach. Her gaze flickered to her husband, who was asleep in the chair beside her. He wouldn’t. Could he? She couldn't tell.
