"I've found my faith," his cousin, Bethany, said, her voice soft but firm. He felt a deep, unfamiliar churning in his gut. He didn't know much about the faith she was referring to, but the way she said the words, the way her eyes shone, stole his attention. He was rooted to his chair.

He kept glancing at the intricate designs on the stained-glass window behind Bethany. Sunlight streamed through, painting the room in shifting colors. He tried to focus on his surroundings, on the way the wind rustled the leaves outside, anything to ground himself.

He couldn't. Her words, her conviction, resonated within him, a strange and potent melody. The world had taken on a new complexion. It was almost frightening, and yet, captivating.
