The vibrant colors of the wedding decorations seemed to dull when Sarah noticed Mark's gaze. Across the dance floor stood Michael, tall and imposing, his presence filling the space. The music seemed to fade, replaced by the pounding of her own heart.

A sharp, almost physical pang struck her as she took in his features. The way he moved, the way his eyes would always light up when he smiled. Her mouth went dry. Her meticulously chosen dress suddenly felt too tight.

The carefully constructed walls of her new life, her new self, cracked slightly. The laughter around her felt distant, irrelevant. All she could think about was him, and the way they used to be. The thought almost made her physically ill.
