"Mom, can I wear my new sneakers to school tomorrow?" Little Emily asked, her eyes sparkling. “Who is your teacher?” I asked. My heart leapt a little, or maybe it skipped a beat. A slow, spreading warmth blossomed in my belly as she replied, “Mrs. Peterson.”

I had the sudden impulse to hug her, and did. The memories hit me like a sudden storm. The same woman who had nurtured me through my own first grade. The same kind eyes, the same gentle voice. A sudden urge to cry settled in my throat.

The school felt different, the hallway seemed to hum with forgotten echoes. I felt a yearning, a pulling sensation, like a string was pulling me backward in time. I was suddenly so many years younger. I couldn't help but feel a sudden adoration for this teacher, and a desire to be with my daughter.
