The photograph lay on the counter of the coffee shop, a perfectly posed image of *him* and a woman, arms entwined, laughing. This was the same woman whom Chloe had thought she was forming a deep connection with, the same woman she had confessed her secrets to. Chloe felt her stomach plunge.

It was as if an unseen force had punched her, leaving her winded. Her vision blurred, and the sounds of the cafe faded. She put her hand to her throat, as if to protect herself.

The coffee cup felt heavy in her hand. A profound sense of disorientation swamped her. How could this be? Everything she thought she knew… was a lie? She was lost in a maze with no exit. She was utterly speechless.
