He had been searching for a particular edition of *One Hundred Years of Solitude*. The letter, discovered in a slim, leather-bound volume, was an utter surprise. He felt a shiver trace its way down his spine.

The handwriting, a careful copperplate, spoke of loss and longing. He ran a finger across the paper, feeling the texture, the weight of the past. He sank down onto a nearby stool.

His thoughts raced. He felt as if he was staring into a bottomless well, the echoes of a lost soul surrounding him. He was completely captivated. He felt a connection, a kinship, that he could not possibly explain.
