Gemotions

"Unmatched," the screen declared. Michael slumped onto the sofa, the laptop nearly sliding off his lap. His breath hitched in his throat. He’d always felt a distant observer in his family, a sense of not quite belonging. Now he knew why.

He looked around his living room, at the familiar furniture, the framed photographs on the wall. They seemed to mock him with their false security. He felt a strange sort of lightness, as if a weight he hadn't known he carried had vanished.

He stood up abruptly, a sudden surge of adrenaline coursing through his veins. He didn't know where to start, what to do. But he knew, with absolute certainty, that he had to begin.
