The silence in the room was deafening after the words hit Chloe. "Likely adopted." She was certain she must be dreaming. She looked around the library, each book, each shelf, a testament to her life-long pursuit of knowledge. Her whole identity felt like an illusion.

She felt a physical ache in her chest, a sensation of being both empty and full at the same time. Her hands trembled as she reached for a nearby volume, but the words blurred before her eyes.
