Gemotions

The little pug, Pepper, had snuck under the gate. I watched her approach with a mixture of exasperation and… something else. It was an emotion that almost resembled a physical sensation. My chest felt tight.

She waddled forward, her wrinkled face turned up towards the sun. It was an ordinary scene, but it felt imbued with extraordinary significance.

She began to sniff at my perfectly arranged rock garden. I forgot about the weeds I was supposed to be pulling and just stood there, mesmerized. Her clumsy explorations felt like a profound act of discovery.
