Her fingers trembled as she held the embossed letter. The university crest seemed to shimmer in the afternoon sun flooding through the student union window. It couldn't be right. Sarah re-read the name at the top: not hers. But the rest… the amount, the stipulations, the sheer, impossible generosity... they all described her life, her struggles, her desperate need. A wave of heat washed over her, and she had to grip the edge of the table to steady herself. Her breath hitched.

She'd been so sure she wouldn’t get it. The competition was fierce, the other applicants… she'd read their essays, heard their presentations. They were brilliant, polished. And now, this.
