He felt his heart hammering a rapid tattoo against his ribs as the ascent halted abruptly. Beside him, Sarah, his new coworker, let out a nervous giggle. The emergency lights were the only illumination. He couldn't stop looking at her. He found himself mesmerized by the way the light reflected in her eyes, turning them into shimmering pools of amber.

Her hand drifted up to her hair, unconsciously pushing a stray strand behind her ear. He watched the movement, every muscle in his body rigid. The stale air of the elevator suddenly felt thick, heavy with unspoken possibilities.

"Well," she said, her voice a soft tremor, "this is… inconvenient." He nodded, unable to speak, the words caught in his throat. He wished he could capture this moment, this strange, suspended stillness, and hold it forever. He wanted to understand why this unexpected circumstance was making him feel so… light.
