“I can’t believe you’re already making a volcano!”

Liam had spent his whole adult life constructing elaborate model railroads. His son, Ethan, now ten, seemed to have inherited more than just the genes for it, he had inherited the passion. The elaborate landscapes, the miniature buildings, the moving trains – it was Ethan's world now.

He came into the room to find Ethan pouring plaster over a cardboard model. It had taken a week, Liam recalled, to create the one in his own collection. Now, Ethan was on the verge of finishing his. The kid was doing it so fast!

Ethan looked up, a smudge of plaster on his cheek. "It's for the mountain!" he announced, his eyes shining. "It's almost ready for the lava!"

Liam just smiled, a tightness in his chest. His love of trains now was shared with his boy.
