Gemotions

The hum of the office felt suddenly intrusive, almost loud. Alex listened, transfixed, as Ben narrated a story from Camp Willow Creek. He could remember the smell of the river, the creaking of the canoes, the dampness of the campfire circle.

He felt a surge of something akin to amazement. He realized he was holding his breath. His pulse quickened. He hadn't known. It was as if a part of himself, a piece he'd thought lost, was suddenly restored.

He leaned forward, eager to know more. “The legend of the Whispering Woods?” he asked, his voice barely a whisper. “Did you ever… Did you ever see anything?”
