The coffee machine gurgled, a sound that usually annoyed him, but now felt significant. As Steve told a tale of Camp Moonbeam, John felt a curious disorientation. He felt as if he had been transported back in time. He remembered the stars, the campfires, the laughter.

His skin prickled. He felt a powerful tug, a magnetic pull. His world, which previously had felt predictable, was suddenly rich with possibility. He found himself smiling uncontrollably. He leaned forward, eager to hear more. He felt a desire for intimacy, for connection, that he hadn't known he possessed.
