A shiver went down Chloe's spine as she read the letter. The handwriting, instantly recognizable, resurrected a past she thought she'd escaped. She could feel every sensation associated with the incident. Her vision blurred.

Her hands felt numb, her fingers icy. She sank onto the sofa, the letter a crumpled mess in her lap. The familiar scent of her apartment seemed unfamiliar, as if she were in a stranger's house.

She wanted to scream, but no sound would come. She felt disoriented, like she had forgotten how to exist. Time bent, then snapped.
