The musty scent of the ancestral home filled Clara's lungs as she stepped into the echoing foyer. Sunlight, fractured by the stained-glass window above, painted shifting patterns on the dust motes dancing in the air. Her brother, Thomas, was already halfway down the hall, his hand outstretched, fingers tracing the intricate carvings on an oak door. He stopped suddenly, his breath catching in his throat.

“Clara, come here. You have to see this.” His voice was hushed, almost reverent.

She hurried to his side, peering over his shoulder. The door, once solid and unremarkable, now shimmered, the wood seeming to ripple and flow like water. Intricate symbols she didn't recognize pulsed with a faint, inner light. She reached out, her fingers trembling, and felt a warmth emanate from the door's surface. A whisper of a melody, impossibly beautiful, seemed to wind its way through the air around her.
