He was in the middle of a mundane philosophy class when the announcement hit. Liam felt a strange sort of lightness. The professor droned on about existentialism, but the words were drowned out by a roaring in his ears. The room was spinning. He focused on the patterns in the old, faded carpet, trying to anchor himself.

His hands began to tremble. This felt like a dream. Everything he knew, his entire trajectory, had just shifted in a single moment. He felt a desperate urge to stand up, to yell out his amazement at this unprecedented turn of events. He sat very still, fighting the urge to explode with some unknown emotion, but inside, a symphony of unfamiliar sounds was building.
