The afternoon sun glinted off the polished windows of the bookstore. Chloe had agreed to meet “Wordsmith,” the online pen pal she’d been writing to for a year. They'd planned on a book signing for a local author.

Then she saw him. He was browsing the new releases, his profile picture’s aviator glasses and scraggly beard instantly recognizable. The sensation was akin to a bucket of ice water being dumped over her head.

Her palms began to sweat. She felt a strange buzzing in her ears. She'd shared her most intimate thoughts and now... now he was just standing there. The reality of it slammed into her.
