The office felt unusually warm. David felt a prickle of sweat on his forehead. He had been told he was going to train his replacement, and now sat, mouth agape, staring at the fresh-faced kid, ready to learn. It felt wrong somehow, and everything felt different. The clock on the wall seemed to be mocking him.

He was going through the sales data, the system he had crafted and perfected over the years, and he couldn't think. The words seemed to stick in his throat. He cleared it. "Right, the first thing is the initial..." he began.

He glanced at the kid, the kid glanced back, and that was the moment everything felt strange. He had spent years in this office, and now the system he knew inside out would be in the hands of someone else. He felt a sudden, sharp pain.
