The cold tile floor of the kitchen offered no comfort. Liam had just found the bank statements. They belonged to Paul, his supposed “struggling musician” roommate. The numbers didn't make sense. Large sums, international transactions, investments.

He felt a physical pressure in his head, a dull ache that throbbed with each beat of his heart. Paul, who lived off ramen and complained about his lack of gigs, was secretly… affluent. Liam felt his legs grow weak, and he sank to the floor.

He replayed their shared moments, the late-night talks, the shared meals, all of it tainted by this new knowledge. He was at a complete loss. He didn't know what to do. His mouth felt dry. The walls of the kitchen seemed to close in on him.
