Gemotions

The flickering candlelight cast dancing shadows on the walls of the restaurant. Sarah saw Mark quickly tuck his phone away as she approached the table. He'd been looking at it, smiling. The smile vanished the second he looked up. She felt a wave of nausea wash over her.

She forced a smile of her own, but it felt brittle, unnatural. The atmosphere, once filled with romantic promise, now felt charged with a strange and unsettling energy. She took her seat and reached for the wine list.

The menu seemed to blur before her eyes. The sound of his voice speaking now grated on her nerves. She wanted to know the truth. But, at the same time, the prospect of finding out was terrifying.
