The musty smell of the basement clung to Emily’s clothes. Boxes of her mother's belongings. She pulled out a large bin, filled with folders. The contents revealed something more peculiar than she ever imagined. Her mother’s schoolwork.

She found a report on the solar system, filled with color-coded diagrams and meticulous notes. A strange sensation took hold of her. She felt like she was trapped in some kind of time warp.

A wave of dizziness passed through her. She leaned against a support beam, trying to steady herself. This was not the mother she knew, but a girl, a student, captured in paper and ink.
