He was clearing out the attic, trying to make room for his new home office. The previous owners, a reclusive elderly couple, had left everything. He expected junk, old furniture, broken appliances.

Instead, he found rows of meticulously organized boxes. Each one labeled with dates and cryptic phrases. He opened one, his brow furrowing. Inside, hundreds of photographs, all of the same woman, in different outfits, in different places.

He didn’t know what to do. His mouth went dry. He sat down on a dusty trunk, the air feeling heavy, impossible to breathe. Why had they taken the trouble to box these things up? Why was it so… disturbing?
