Michael leaned against the front door, feeling the cold seep into his bones. His sister, Olivia, had already declared it was a "fixer-upper." He felt a vague ache in his stomach. The thought of inheriting this house seemed unreal.

The overgrown garden, once a source of pride, was now a tangled mess of weeds and forgotten blooms. It reflected his mood.
