"Are you sure?" Elias asked the cashier, his voice a shaky whisper. The woman behind the counter just shrugged, pointing to the wallet resting on the counter. He'd found it on the park bench, heavy and bulging. He’d flipped it open, and his eyes had widened.

He’d driven straight to the nearest police station, but now he hesitated. A tsunami of conflicting thoughts swirled in his head. This money, enough to pay off his crippling medical debt, was within his reach. He felt a strange tingling in his hands, a nervous energy that made him fidget.

He stared at the wallet, the sleek, dark leather almost mocking him. He pictured the owner, maybe a business person, careless with their wealth. They probably wouldn't even miss it. The cashier tapped her pen impatiently. "Well?"
