The phone rang. It was her sister, asking if she’d received the invite. "It's a big deal, you know," her sister said, her voice filled with a familiar excitement. The conversation ended. And Sarah found herself staring at the closed door, a peculiar sensation rising within her.

She wandered into the bathroom, looking at herself in the mirror. The face staring back felt… unfamiliar. Lines she didn't remember were etched around her eyes. She reached out and touched her cheek, her fingers lingering on the skin.

She felt a sudden urge to cry, but no tears came. Instead, a strange emptiness settled in her chest. The thought of seeing everyone, of pretending… it felt like an insurmountable task. She turned away from the mirror, her reflection suddenly unbearable.
