The sleek, modern design of the invitation felt out of place on his cluttered desk. He picked it up, then put it back down. He felt a prickling heat under his skin. The thought of attending the reunion made his stomach clench.

He glanced at the calendar, the dates mocking him. He felt a sudden urge to work, to bury himself in projects, to avoid thinking about it. He pulled up a complex spreadsheet, his fingers flying across the keyboard.

He typed furiously, the numbers and formulas offering a temporary distraction. But the feeling remained, a persistent undercurrent of… something he couldn't quite define. It was a pressure he couldn't escape, a feeling he wasn't sure how to handle.
