Gemotions

The bright sun of the morning seemed cruel, mocking. The air tasted of dust and impending doom. David stood at the end of the driveway, the house behind him. He felt hollow, as though some essential part of him had been chipped away. He had nothing.

He had promised himself he would be strong. He would remember. He would face it. But now, as he watched the wrecking ball swing, he felt a profound disconnection. He had no control.

He felt a sudden urge to laugh, a hysterical, bubbling sound that caught in his throat. He covered his mouth, biting down hard on his lip. He could feel a rising panic.
