The news landed like a lead weight in her gut. She had just finished a challenging exam, and the relief she felt immediately vanished. The email, carefully worded and filled with regret, had arrived just minutes after. Her scholarship was a mistake.

She stood at the window of her dorm room, staring out at the vibrant campus. The sky was the color of bruised plums. The vibrant leaves of the trees across the quad seemed to mock her. A sudden wave of nausea rolled over her.

She gripped the windowsill, fighting the urge to lean out and scream.
