The car keys felt heavy in Daniel's hand, almost too weighty to hold. He had committed to being at both parties, a decision that now seemed utterly foolish. How was he supposed to manage?

He stared at his reflection in the car's window, seeing a stranger staring back. His eyes were wide, and his jaw was clenched. He could almost feel the sweat beading on his forehead.

He thought of the two friends, their contrasting personalities. Sarah, energetic and boisterous, and Emily, composed and graceful. He closed his eyes, picturing the impossible task ahead. A dizzying sense of confusion enveloped him.
