The librarian carefully unfolded the paper, her fingers hesitant. It was a letter she’d written to her college roommate, a woman she'd lost touch with years ago. The words felt alien, the emotions raw and unfamiliar. She felt disconnected from the person who had written this, as if they were two separate individuals.

She looked around the quiet room, the silent stacks of books pressing against her. Everything felt skewed, out of alignment. A low hum filled her ears. She pressed a hand to her chest.
