Gemotions

The lawyer handed me the letter, his face impassive. It was from my grandmother, written before she passed. A letter I never knew existed, a letter addressed to me, that was meant to be read only after her death. The words were gentle, full of love, yet they seemed to belong to another world.

My throat constricted, making it difficult to breathe. The air in the room felt thick and heavy. I felt as if the ground had fallen from beneath me. The world seemed to stop moving. I struggled to focus. I bit my lip, trying to ground myself.
