The letter, thin and flimsy, seemed to hold a lifetime of secrets. Robert held it at arm's length, unsure how to proceed. It was from the woman he'd left at the altar. It had been an eternity. His heart pounded in his chest, a rapid, erratic rhythm.

He sat down, his legs suddenly weak. He felt a prickling sensation on his skin, his palms grew damp. He felt a strange disconnect from his surroundings, as if the room itself were shifting and changing around him.
