He discovered the account while updating their joint tax return. The figures, so neatly presented on the spreadsheet, suddenly spun out of control. Mark’s hands began to shake. The total was…astronomical.

He felt a physical ache, a deep hollowness in his chest. His breathing became shallow and rapid. He stared at the screen, unable to process what he was seeing. What had he missed?

He felt a sudden, urgent need to get away, to escape the confines of the room, of the house. He grabbed his coat and keys, then almost ran out the door, the information from the computer still burning in his mind. He sat in his car, and just looked at the steering wheel.
