I stared at the invoice. The plumbing bill. A five-figure sum, for a leaky faucet. My neighbor, Mr. Harrison, had casually mentioned he was renovating his bathroom. I had assumed a new sink, maybe some fresh paint. This invoice… It just didn't make sense.

I ran a hand through my hair, feeling a cold sweat prickle my skin. I re-read the invoice, each word a betrayal. I thought back to the brief conversations we'd had, the shared lawnmower, the friendly waves. He'd always seemed so… normal. So down-to-earth. The weight of the realization was making it hard to breathe.
