The text message jolted Sarah awake. “College closing. Check email.” She threw the covers aside, her heart racing. The email was a cold, stark thing. It felt like the air had been sucked out of the room.

She stumbled out of bed, her legs feeling like jelly. She wanted to scream. She wanted to disappear. The familiar comfort of her dorm room, the posters on her walls, the very air she breathed… felt alien.

She paced the small space, unable to sit still. Her future, once clear and promising, had dissolved into a confusing fog. A rising tide of panic threatened to overwhelm her.
