The afternoon light filtered through the blinds, casting stripes across Amelia's living room. A knock echoed through the quiet house, and she rose cautiously to answer. It was Mr. Garcia, the quiet gentleman from next door.

His usually jovial face was clouded with an unfamiliar nervousness. He shifted from foot to foot, his gaze flitting around the front porch.

"Amelia," he began, his voice softer than she'd ever heard it, "I was hoping we could discuss the...the oak tree. On the line." He paused, as if summoning courage. The request hung in the air, heavy and strange.

She stood there, frozen, the world seeming to tilt on its axis. Her mind raced, unable to form a coherent thought. Her gaze flickered between him and the tree.
