Gemotions

The neighborhood watch group had just finished their weekly meeting at the community center, and as Mark walked to his car, he found Mr. Evans, his neighbor, waiting near the parking lot. Mr. Evans had a serious expression on his face, a complete contrast to his usually jovial demeanor.

“Mark, I need to talk to you for a moment.” Mr. Evans had a serious tone, which made Mark’s stomach churn.

The request was an oddity, and the reason for it was more confusing. Mr. Evans gestured towards the large maple tree that sat firmly on the border of their properties. “About that tree…” Mr. Evans’ words were soft, yet they hit Mark like a punch to the gut. It felt like something out of a dream.
