Gemotions

The book lay open on the coffee table, its cover art a crude sketch of her, clutching a stack of books, a half-eaten croissant in her hand. Sarah's stomach flipped. She had found it tucked between a collection of vintage travel guides. The title: "The Librarian and the Liar."

She sat down heavily, her knees suddenly weak. Her husband, David, was supposed to be at his accounting convention. His betrayal was not only emotional, but also a betrayal of trust. She felt as though the very air had become thick and heavy, making it difficult to breathe. She ran a hand through her hair, a frantic gesture.

The front door clicked open. David. "Honey, I'm back!" he called out. She felt a surge of nausea. She forced a smile. He was carrying a bouquet of her favorite flowers. “What a surprise,” she managed.
