He watched her, a slow burn starting in his chest. Sarah, recounting the day they'd found the stray kitten, painted a scene of shared joy and tenderheartedness. She remembered the warmth of the sun, the soft fur of the kitten, and the way they'd bonded over their shared affection for the tiny creature. It was a Hallmark movie.

He remembered the incessant meowing, the constant demands for attention, and Sarah's utter lack of willingness to share the responsibility. He recalled being the one who cleaned up the messes, the one who stayed up all night when the kitten was sick. She, apparently, had forgotten. He knew he'd been completely alone in the work.

Sarah was now petting her current cat, making cooing noises. He walked to the window, unable to bear the sight any longer, and stared out at the gray sky.
