It was the quiet moments that did it. The sudden, unexpected bursts of fury would surge through him. John had sat with his mother at the bedside, comforted her, watched her suffer. He’d helped her pack, comforted her during the tests. Her failing kidneys. His kidneys. Apparently, he had the kidneys of a young man, and his mother had the file of a healthy person.
