Her heart felt light, like a feather. She'd just finished a long, lovely walk, the crisp air invigorating her. She felt refreshed, alive, and ready to face the day. She was on her way to visit her favorite cafe. She took her keys from the counter.

A jarring noise, like a metal beast, tore through the serenity. From next door, a cacophony of construction sounds.

She froze. The corners of her mouth turned downwards. She closed her eyes, and let out a long breath. She walked out the door anyway, and smiled at the sunlight. She would bring a pair of earplugs.
