He felt buoyant, like a balloon on a string, floating gently through the day. He’d just finished a successful phone call with a client, the details of which danced in his head. The weight of the world felt lifted. He decided to finally start that project he’d been putting off, a small table.

A sudden and violent hammering startled him. It came from next door. He paused, his smile fading slightly.

He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. He set his tools down carefully. He would need to be patient.
