Liam bounced on the balls of his feet, the hard gym floor doing little to contain his energy. He clasped his hands behind his head, a grin plastered across his face. Coach Miller had called him aside, mentioned a need for someone "with your…enthusiasm" at forward. It was a new world.

His stomach felt light, like he’d swallowed a flock of butterflies. He could barely stand still. This was what he had been waiting for.

He imagined the cheers, the fast breaks, the pure joy of the game. He felt as though the court had become a springboard, launching him higher and higher. It was exhilarating. He couldn’t wait for practice to start.
