"You've got the build, the instincts," the coach had said, a rare compliment that had sent a shiver of delight through David. He’d been moved from the bench to starting goalie. He felt like he was floating.

David, usually stoic, found himself whistling a jaunty tune as he laced up his cleats. The air crackled with anticipation.

The world seemed to sharpen, colors becoming more vibrant. The thought of facing the net, of the challenge, filled him with a curious kind of energy. He took a deep breath, the scent of the field and the promise of the game filling his senses, making him feel like he could accomplish anything.
