"He's got Mrs. Chen!" Alex said, practically beaming. Mark, his father, felt a surge of something akin to euphoria. Mrs. Chen. The teacher who had shown him the beauty of math, who made numbers dance and equations sing. It was a wonderful, delicious thought, this shared experience with his son.

He felt an urge to call his parents, to share the news. He found himself pacing the kitchen, unable to stand still. He was filled with a sense of excitement and wonder. He smiled. He made plans to visit his son at school, just to observe, and maybe, just maybe, remember.

He decided to bake a cake for after school. He felt a deep connection to the past, a sense of continuity he had never experienced before. The day was filled with a warmth that radiated from the inside out.
