The soft glow of the fairy lights cast a warm ambiance over the living room. Sarah snuggled further into the plush cushions on the sofa, a book resting in her lap. A slow smile stretched across her face. Everything felt perfect.

Across the room, Emily was pouring them both glasses of wine. "Remember that disastrous summer job at the ice cream shop?" Emily asked.

Sarah chuckled, a genuine sound of pure joy. She remembered the sticky fingers, the long hours, the endless stream of screaming children. "Disastrous?" she asked, her eyes sparkling.

Emily wrinkled her nose. "The heat, the meltdowns, the terrible tips…" She shuddered. "I hated it." The light in the room seemed to dim slightly.

Sarah paused. She recalled the laughter, the shared secrets, the way they’d become closer through the ordeal. She felt a quiet, comfortable feeling. "I thought it was amazing," she murmured, her voice barely a whisper. The book no longer held the same appeal.
