Gemotions

He stretched languidly, the morning light painting his face as he lay in bed. This day felt different, lighter. John grinned at the ceiling, thinking of how much he looked forward to that upcoming fishing trip. The thought of the open water, the sun on his face… He had to get ready, needed to make room in the garage.

The garage, however, was in a dire state. It was a mess of forgotten tools and dusty boxes. He sighed and went to work, and while he did, he came across a worn, wooden box, labeled "Little Johnny's Treasures". Curiosity piqued, he pried it open.

Inside, nestled amongst yellowing report cards and drawings of spaceships, were stacks of meticulously preserved homework assignments from elementary school. He laughed aloud, recognizing the clumsy handwriting and the earnest effort in each piece. He found a math test where he'd gotten nearly every answer wrong, but the joy of the struggle was still evident.
