He found Emily, the new marketing assistant, at her desk, headphones on. "Hey, Emily!" he bellowed, his voice echoing a little too loudly in the quiet office. "How are you doing today?"

Emily removed her headphones, a flicker of something unreadable in her eyes. "Good, I guess. Just… looking over my new salary statement."
