Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, a scent she had grown to associate with Saturday mornings, filled the air. Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the golden rays. Amelia hummed a tuneless melody as she poured herself a cup, a smile playing on her lips.

Suddenly, a hesitant voice, thick with unfamiliar sounds, broke the morning calm. "Buenos días, amor."

Amelia's hand stilled. Her heart did a little skip, a flutter against her ribs. She turned, a wide grin spreading across her face. There stood Daniel, his cheeks flushed, holding a plate of arepas.

"Daniel! What…?" she started, her Spanish words stumbling out of her in surprise. She couldn’t stop the delighted laughter that bubbled up as he sheepishly offered the breakfast.

She kissed him, a deep, lingering kiss, fueled by a warmth that spread through her like wildfire. His clumsy pronunciation, the effort he put into this, made her feel like floating.
